Gareth Southgate went through the mail and laid the law on Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold. It’s not for the faint hearted.
A warning every minute

As if to prove the point, here’s another headline on The Sun website:

And this one is really even worse. Southgate has completely lost control here and something needs to be done about it.
“I know everyone says Harry is important to me but he’s important to us. It’s us – it’s not me. Why do we choose him? Because he’s one of the players who gives us the best chance of winning.
“So really, we should all want a Harry Maguire who plays consistently and plays with confidence. That applies, of course, to quite a few players, but that’s where it all lands, which really has to be a space difficult for him.

Did he also have “one-on-one talks with” Fikayo Tomori, James Ward-Prowse and Aaron Ramsdale? Or are the standard chats he’s had with every England player only referred to as ‘heart to heart’ when it comes to someone the media is increasingly obsessed with?
Good cop, bad Klopp

Jurgen Klopp must be royally pissed off that the English coach prefers Kieran Trippier to one of his club’s players. How furious he will be if Alexander-Arnold is left out of the World Cup squad and forced to take a break amid a difficult and tiring season.

Alexander-Arnold has started 14 games against England in his entire career, and only once in a row.
Did anyone really doubt that Trippier was “ahead” of Alexander-Arnold in the English hierarchy until Southgate “indicated”/”revealed” as such?
