“This result will not give big outfits sleepless nights”

I wouldn’t call him a classic winner in waiting. He’s certainly friendly – a nice big stride and a great attitude – but it’s now been three times since he’s had his own way out front. It was hard to believe how easy Frankie Dettori had a lead; he wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip away.

The race performance came from Royal Scotsman, who got every yard of the 7f trip and probably should have won. This effort now opens up many options for him. But for race powerhouses Godolphin and Ballydoyle, this result won’t give them sleepless nights.

“He is firmly in contention for classic glory”

Andrew Balding enjoyed a 2000 Guineas hit with Kameko in 2020 and now has the ammunition to clinch the Newmarket Classic next year. Frankel’s colt has risen in class in each of his five starts and now has a Group 1 to add to his already impressive CV.

He demonstrated his credentials with a smart performance in the Dewhurst, assisted by a solid ride from Frankie Dettori who seemed to pull a good air out of him. From how calm Chaldean seemed throughout the race, I think he is firmly in contention for classic glory next year.

“Chaldean will be a strong contender”

Chaldean has progressed exceptionally well this season for Andrew Balding with wins in the Acomb Stakes, Champagne Stakes and now at the top level in the Dewhurst.

His narrow victory under typical Frankie Dettori riding means he deserves respect in the 2,000 Guineas, but it’s too early to call him a winner in waiting. If he trains at three, he should be a serious contender, but bigger challenges await him against Little Big Bear and Sakheer.
